Peeking inside a tidy kitchen room,
a squirrel, cautious, makes her move at last.
Her intent, obvious - hunt for food.
For rodents thrive at many tasks but fast.
She rummaged shelves and boxes and smallest cracks,
for hazelnuts, biscuit crumbs, a grain of rice!
Alas! the little beast could find no tracks.
And sundown neared as did the winds of ice.
But wait! She poised, focused and bulged her eyes.
Under the table there sat a fresh full plum.
She lunged towards this stroke of luck, this prize!
Then sensing danger turned away therefrom.
Her skittish jump deserves no jives, after all,
her only agenda was to survive.
The above poem is for the NaPoWriMo2021. This time, I tried to write a Shakespearean sonnet but the syllables are a bit of a mess. Nonetheless, this is the most adorable poem I've written so far. Day 9 Prompt Kitchen
